Rebekah Churchyard, a WYLD member from Canada is seeking international expertise for her project into dementia and the legal system. She is looking for existing resources or to talk to people who have expertise in how people with dementia can be supported during law enforcement proceedings.
Her project is a collaboration with Dr. Arlene Astell and the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (OSCMHS). It is looking at the challenges a person with dementia faces after experiencing legal charges with regards to finding suitable and safe accommodation. As some long-term care homes refuse admission to people who may present as a ‘risk’ to other residents, this can result in acute hospitalization, temporary incarceration and accessing homeless shelters.
If you know of any research or practical projects taking place in your country relating to this important issue, please get in touch with Rebekah directly at churchyardr@ontarioshores.ca
